SB 951: Increase in California SDI Withholding and its Effects 2024 (californiapayroll.com)

California is increasing paid family leave benefits starting in January. Here's what to know (msn.com)

Coalition Priorities Passed This Year and New Laws Going Into Effect in 2025! — California Work & Family Coalition

Eff. 1/01/2025, SB 951 (Durazo) raises wage replacement for Paid Family Leave (PFL) + State Disability Insurance (SDI), when take leave to bond with a new child, care for themselves or a seriously ill family member, or take paid leave when a family member is being called on active military duty.

PFL + SDI Increased Benefits:

  • 90% of regular income for low to middle-income workers (up from 60 or 70%), benefiting those earning approximately $60,000 annually or less.

  • Higher wage workers will receive 70% of their normal income up to a cap.

PFL + SDI programs are designed to ensure that Californians are able to care for themselves and their loved ones without losing their entire income when a employee is unable to work:

  • PFL provides up to 8 weeks of income when they are caring for a seriously ill or injured family member, bonding with a new child, or for certain needs when a family member is deployed.

  • SDI provides up to 52 weeks of income due to an injury or illness, including pregnancy related conditions.
